اWelcome to the department of architectural engineering and urban planning, It is our great honor and privilege for us as staff members of the department to represent this simple guide that describes the departments policies and objectives in order to prepare and graduate engineering personnel that are qualified to participate in alleviating our community, with the aspiration that students who are hoping to enroll in the department are well guided. The department of architectural engineering is endeavoring to achieve a set of goals such as linking the quality of its output with the actual need of the community and providing well qualified work force in the field of architecture and urban planning that are able to design and prepare documents to different projects, in addition to urban planning, supervising projects, and participating in the sustainable urban development. To achieve the departments goals al Refak university had provided a separate building that contains workshops, studios, and a meeting hall all of which had been well equipped with all the necessary educational means. The department takes pride in its academic staff members who are knowledgeable, competent and professional and committed to serve and lead a unique educational environment, and able to nurture and encourage the development of talents. The department works through continuously assessing and improving its academic program through consulting and benchmarking with national and international institutes of related programs.

First, the admission requirements:-
Students are admitted to the university according to the following categories:
1.New Students

Those who have not previously studied at higher education institutions (ie, have obtained a secondary school certificate or its equivalent).

2. Transferred Students:

* Students transferred from scientific departments inside and outside the university, and there are two cases :

* Students transferred from outside the university, the equivalency of the subjects from the engineering departments will be conducted and they will be subject to an admission exam .

As for the students transferred from the relevant departments of the Department of Architecture from outside the university, where their previously studied subjects are equalized, provided that it does not exceed 50% of the total subjects required for the student to be familiar with the department he is enrolled in, according to what is stipulated in the university’s admission, study and examination regulations.

3. Completion students

Students who have a high qualification (higher diploma) and wish to complete university studies, where the subjects previously studied by the student are calculated, provided that he does not change the specialization, i.e. (a number of supplementary subjects are added that qualifies him to obtain a university degree in his specialization).

After dividing the students into the previous categories, they must attach the following documents to complete the admission process:

1. The original secondary certificate or its equivalent (and its equivalent if the student obtained it from outside Libya).

2. Birth certificate (passport copy for international students).

3. The original transcript approved by the institution from which the student transferred in case he\she studied at another higher education institution.

4. A Certificate of Void Criminal Record.

5. (6) Personal Photographs.

6. Birth certificate (passport copy for international students).

7. Health Certificate.

8. Extract of the national number.

Subjects registration terms:

Students have the right to choose their courses at the university after obtaining a registration number and registration card, as follows:

- (Autumn and Spring semesters) The minimum is 15 units and the maximum is 21 units

- (Summer Semester) Optional Maximum limit 15 units

- The student initially registers for his courses according to the schedule prepared by the department he is affiliated with, where the student is advised for the courses through the academic advisor according to the priorities of the courses specified in advance by the department. After approving the final course registration form from the Registration Department and the Financial Department, the student joins his lectures according to his department's lecture schedule.

- After the final registration form is approved by the Registration Office and the Financial Department, the student joins his lectures according to the lecture schedule of his department.

The number of approved units and their equivalent in hours for obtaining a bachelor’s degree in the disciplines of architecture and urban planning (161 units) and its equivalent (209 hours) (113 theoretical hours and 96 practical hours) distributed according to the requirements in total

1- Provide unique academic programs and provide creative and challenging educational environment

2- Prepare well qualified work force that are capable of developing and providing consultation in the field of architecture.

3- Encourage and nurture the academic research, and implementing the latest technology in order to achieve distinctiveness in the field of architecture and urban planning

4- Establish and improve partnership and academic engagement with faculties and community institutions and also local and international research centers
