Brief History

Alrefak University is the leading Libyan university in the field of teaching and learning. It was founded in 2003 by Dr. Meheeba Franka in a strategic location, in Tripoli, a few meters from the city center. The university began its scientific career with three programs involving 350 students, and these numbers have evolved to reach during the academic year 2020/2021 to about 3500 students distributed in nine different programmers these are: English, accounting, computer science, business Administration, hospital management, law, oil engineering, civil engineering, and architecture engineering. They are taught by a number of 120 faculty members. Al-Refak University is the first private university in Libya to receive local institutional accreditation in 2007 and program accreditation for all its programs. Since its founding, the University has performed three key functions that have made it distinguished among universities. • First, providing students with the knowledge and skills needed to increase their academic achievement and prepare them for future work. • Second, encourage scientific research to achieve sustainable development. • Third: Community development through scientific conferences, seminars and workshops. The University is constantly developing its programs to achieve excellence and leadership in the field of teaching and learning, so since its founding the university has been interested in developing teaching performance and quality of education, and based on a real and promising desire to raise the level of faculty, it has allocated awards to those who provide outstanding scientific research. The university's main journal, which began publishing in 2019, is a well-established, indexed scientific journal specializing in humanities and applied sciences It is issued semi-annually, and publishes scientific research in Both Arabic and English. In 2020 the university was ranked ninth (9) out of thirty-two (32) universities in the local rankings of Libyan universities.
